TERMS AND CONDITIONS

DUE DATES:

• Entry form, synopsis and film MUST be submitted by: SATURDAY, MAY 28, 2009.

ELIGIBILITY:
The film entry must be submitted by either the:
- director;
- producer; or
- copyright owner.


This person will be known as the ‘contact person’ on the entry form and the responsible party in ‘Festival’s Terms and Conditions’. The contact person has the obligation to ensure every aspect of the entry has been satisfied.

The contact person has the responsibility to ensure the film complies with the law, including that there are no possible copyright infringements. The Nevis Film Festival (‘Festival’) does not have the responsibility to check that the film complies with all domestic and international laws, only the contact person has this knowledge and can make inquires.

The competition:
• Students attending either a tertiary, or arts institution.
• Independent filmmakers are also eligible to enter.
• Open to both Nevisian and non-Nevisian citizens.

All filmmakers can submit 1 film per category.

If a film contains a language other than English, subtitles MUST be present on all copies.

NOTE: It is the responsibility of the contact person to ensure the submitted DVD are fully functional and in proper working order. We do not want Festival’s editors to be frustrated by submissions which skip, pause, pixilate or do not play. If such an entry is received it may not be considered for screening.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

There is an entry fee of US$100.
Films do not have to be recent – films will be accepted if made in 2007/8.
• All films are to be submitted on DVD.

All DVDs will be returned if US$20.00 for return postage is submitted along with the film and entry form.

International entries are to ensure the DVD is a Region ……………………..

Once the entry form, synopsis and film(s) have been received by Festival organisers, each entry will undergo a preliminary round of judging. A short-list will be drafted and a screening will determine the final screening selection. If successful, the contact person will be notified, as it is expected that films that reach the finals stage will be represented. NFF will provide accommodation, food and transportation to and from events for four (4) representatives of each film.

However, if an entry contains material that is deemed discriminatory or offensive to any group of persons and/or generally distasteful, it will not be screened. Discretion will be used during the judging and selection processes.

Submitting:
• The entry form, synopsis and film (DVD) MUST be posted to PO Box 227, CHARLESTOWN, NEVIS, WEST INDIES submitted by: SATURDAY, MAY 28, 2009.

• A confirmation e-mail will be sent once entry is received.

Permission for screening:
• By agreeing to ‘Festival’s Terms & Conditions’ and completing the ‘Entry Form’ the contact person is granting permission for the Festival to screen the film(s).

• The contact person is also giving the Festival permission to use film stills and photographs they submit for the purposes of publicity.

• Images from the film(s) and additional photographs may be reproduced and/or broadcast on the Festival’s website, associated websites and/or media outlets. This is not an exhaustive list of media sources.

Publicity:
• If the entry is selected for screening and nominated for an award, the contact person must be prepared to submit detailed information about their film and crew.

• The contact person must also be prepared to supply costumes, props and/or actors (if any) for a media photo shoot.

• If the entry is selected for screening the contact person must e-mail 3 JPEG stills to Festival organisers for publicity purposes.

Award categories:

Awards and prizes are designated as follows:


Prizes
• All awards and prizes are still under negotiation with sponsors and are subject to change.
• All Awards will receive trophies.


Genre:
• All genres will be accepted, including: drama, comedy, documentary, horror, music clip, thriller, art house, animation, experimental, computer graphic clips etc…

Content:
There is no theme. Time limits are set out as follows:
• Short Films must not exceed 15 mins
• Feature Films must not exceed 30 mins
• Documentary Films must not exceed 15 mins
• All films will be selected based on Judging Criteria provided by HYM.

The time limits must be respected. It remains the discretion of the festival panel if a film that is over the limit should be screened. Being within the tolerance limit does not guarantee selection.
